Hike : Nagarkot-Dhulikhel

Image
After we(2 friends) decided to spend this Holi Festival(Hindu festival of colors) hiking, we picked Nagarkot-Dhulikhel as our route. That day was 22nd March 2016. Early on the morning at 7:00 Am we woke up and meet at Koteshwork, from where we were to ride public bus upto Nagarkot. Due to the festival, there were few public transportation. Reached Kamalbinayak by a bus and then we waited for next bus which will took us to Nagarkot. But we came to know that there were no bus going to Nagarkot. Hence after having talk to locals there, we decided to ride a bus which will took a different route upto Kalamasi (3km to Nagarkot). We reached there and we found another group of 3 going to Nagarkot. After a little talk they decided to hike with us. :). Way from Kalamasi to Nagrkot View From Nagarkot view tower Hence we walked upto Nagarkot passing through wonderful pine forest. Have some fun at the view tower located at Nagarkot pick. It was already 11:00 am and hence we had light lunch of t...

Google: The weird company

If you are noticing my anger over google from the title of the post, then you are right. Yes, I am angry over Google for some of its weird decision which directly affected me on past and present. For a while I could say that google is company who makes good(superb in some case) products, gather a large user of those products and after a while the close those fantastic services with some WEIRD logic. My recent anger is over the murder of MyTracks, and android app which lets you track the path you walk/cycle/drive around. MyTracks used to present nice statistics and trace path over google map. Google decided to discontinue it  on early 2016 and after 30th of March 2016 you will no-longer be able to use it. Here goes the official statements from google After April 30, 2016, My Tracks will no longer be available. We apologize for the inconvenience this might cause My Tracks users. We’ve made the tough decision to invest our efforts into other, more wide-reaching, mapping projects....

Nikon D3300: My first DSLR

Image
Few months ago the crazy idea of cycling around country on bicycle came into my mind and now I am kind of getting prepared for it. I am designing a handlebar bag of my bicycle with help of a bag builder here at Sanepa, Kathmandu. I got sleeping bag and I am thinking of getting one pair of bicycle panniers and a tent. On the same list falls a LightWeight DSLR for taking pictorial diary of the location I would cycle through. :) So my camera needs to be light weight, durable battery and weather resistance. Besides, it needs to have decent sensor, usable fps, video capability and the possibility to upgrade lenses. And ya last but not least, it got to have reasonable price range. Keeping those criteria as base I ran mini research on internet and on friend circle(tiny circle or dot :P). I looked from Canon 1200D to Nikon D3200, Nikon D3300, and Canon 700D. 1200D is a usable camera on the range of $380(NRS 38000) but with low capacity battery and the frame per second(fps) is just 3. Going...

Cycling upto the top of Chindragiri hill

Image
Last Saturday morning out of blue we decided to cycle upto a hill nearlyby kathmandu. It is the Chandragiri hill near kalanki Kathmandu. It is not a long ride. We planed to reach the top which is 20km or so uphill and then 40 km or so downhill and plane road. I packed small bag with bike tool kit and a sleeping bag lyner just in case if we got to sleep somewhere. View From Chandragiri Top Started at around 9:15 from lalitur. Used some shortcut to reach balkhu, kalanki and to Thankot. Thankot is the point from where we got to catch way uphill. The way was full of dust and the rubble. So it was hard to to uphill. But I decided to paddle all the way up. I shifted my gear to lowest and the started paddling. We had 2 lit of water and few packets of ORS and glucose. Glucose drink while paddling gave us lot of energy to continue. And frequent rest was essential. Took some shortcut on which we got to carry our bike :). Finding a gang of hiker was fun but the occasional vehicles passing through...

First solo overnight cycling experience part-2

Image
Day 2 It was hard for me to woke up this day. It was around 8:00 am when I finally got out of bed. The due were frozen on the grass tip and hence it looked pretty white outside. But the sun had already up on the sky to make the environment warm again. Packed the bag again and had noodles as breakfast as there was no alternative this early. The National Park office was nearby the hotel and the officer came to me to ask about the ticket. But as there were no National park office from where I entered, I had to buy the ticket there. I was shocked to know that I had to pay double of my ticket for my bike. NRs 56 for me and NRs 100 for my bike. I was shocked more to know that few month ago the ticket for mountain bike was NRs 1000 ($10). :( Anyway paid that and on the way at 8:50 am. Route that day was mostly unknown. 90% of the route was complete inside the national park. But as I got enough rest that night I could paddle easily. And another good news was that the path was expected to be do...

First solo overnight cycling experience part-1

Image
Trip started from Gwarko Lalitpur. I had figured out a shortcut to reach the main way that I was about to that day and was cycling. Ya reached on the Sankhu-Sindhupalchwok highway at Thali, Kathmandu. This is a paved way and hence easier to paddle ahead. But there is no solution for hills which I have to climb. From Lapse Phedi('phedi' means base of hill) I had to climb for around 1 hour or so to reach Jarsing Pauwa. Then after my way was mostly downhill upto Everest Tea Garden, which was my primary destination for that day. But as they were converting that tea garden to organic one, it was closed and the tea plant were being cut down for replantation. It was around 1:30 pm and hence I decided to proceed further. My next point was reach Chisapani, Newakot and spend night there. But for that i had to climb another hill and where there is no paved way, not even graveled. And hence i had to push my bike most of the time. I was pushing my bike on Haibung VDC of Sindhupalchwok Distr...

Don't Screw Up is screwing up

Image
Recently I got chance to play new game on my Android. I would like to say my type of game i.e. simple, stupid. :) Its named Don't Screw Up! but it is really screwing up my mind. It is very straight game as there is no logic behind. All you have to do is keep on following the instruction given to you on the screen. And the instruction were not tough either. They are simple instruction like to tap twice, swipe or wait for next instruction. They do have time limit for you to follow the instruction. The only problem with it is it uses different language for instruction and most often that obscure. You got to read the line, analyze it to find out what is asked really. And by then you will reach timeout. Some examples tap three times Mama says tap twice Lets wait for next instruction tap one more then one and one less then three times Another interesting thing is that it scolds you on a funny way when you scored less then the previous high score. Some Examples Don't worry, yo...

As my Lenovo G50-70 ( core i7, 4GB, 17" LED) to soo power hungry that i can't even watch two episode of Game of Thrones. And hence, i was searching for power manager which could extend my battery life in exchange of the performance. I had experience with Jupiter previouly but later find out that it is not mantained nowadays. And hence find out about TLP . I followed this installation instruction for my Fedora 21 system. Result From initial observation i found out 30% backup time gain on my system. It never used to give even 2 hours of backup before but now it shows 3 hours and 15 minutes and ya gave me 3 hours of backup. Thanks tld.
